Rubredoxin

Rubredoxin is a low molecular weight bacterial enzyme which mediates one electron transfer reaction. It is an iron sulfur protein with four cystine residues binding the electron carrying iron. The rubredoxin sculpture is permanently installed at Duke University, first in the lobby of the Paul M. Gross Chemistry building where it was a fixture and a symbol since 1973 and since 2008 in the Chemistry Deparment’s new home in the French Family Science Center. The images show the sculpture in its original campus location and in it is present setting. The first image is reproduced from a volume entitled Duke Visions published by the University in 1999. The sculpture is painted steel and stands approximately seven feet tall.
