Rantes

Chemokine ligand-5 (CCL5) is a protein which in humans is encoded by the CCL5 gene. Based upon its function CCL5 is also known as RANTES (Regulated upon Activation, Normal T-cell Expressed, and Secreted). CCL5 is an 8kDa protein classified as a chemotactic cytokine or chemokine. Rantes was initially identified by Dr. Schall then at Stanford and subsequently isolated and characterized at the Serono Pharmaceutical Research Institute, Geneva Switzerland. Serono commissioned two sculptures of the molecule in 1997. Subsequently, Chemocentryx Inc., a company founded by Dr. Schall in 1997, commissioned a lobby sized golden sculpture and 70 miniature CCL5 models for presentation to investors following their initial public stock offering in 2012.
