UDP-N-acetylenolpyruvylglucosamine Reductase
Uridine diphospho-N-acetylenolpyruvyl-glucosamine reductase (MurB) is a key enzyme in bacterial cell wall biosynthesis. As such the enzyme is a potential target for novel, potent new antibiotics that would inhibit it. The MURB sculpture was presented to Chris Walsh, who had studied MURB, on the occasion of his 60th birthday by his students and postdoctoral associates at Harvard and M.I.T. (1972-2004). The sculpture is made primarily of brass with a stainless steel substrate and FAD cofactor. The approximate size of the pieces is 27 inches wide and 19 inches high. It is mounted on a solid cherry base.
