Follicle Stimulating Hormone

Follicle stimulating hormone is a two subunit protein hormone marketed by Serono to enhance fertility. The sculptures show the two subunits and the carbohydrate moieties essential for the hormone activity. In the largest of the three pieces, the ribbon is made from brush-finished stainless steel with the carbohydrate moieties rendered at atomic resolution in polished stainless steel. This sculpture stands approximately seven feet tall and is mounted on a wooden base made of cherry. The two other Gonal-F sculptures stand approximately 20 inches above wooden bases. One is made of copper and brass; the other is a continuous brass ribbon. The carbohydrate moieties bound to each subunit are again represented in atomic detail with laser cut stainless steel.
