Phosopholipase A2
Pancreatic phospholipase A2 is a pancreatic enzyme that releases fatty acids from the second carbon group of glycerol triesters. The sculpture shows the enzyme with a transition state analog bound to it. The model is made of brass and stainless steel and mounted on a maple base. The piece was commissioned by Professor E.A. Dennis at University of California, San Diego, who for many years has studied this enzyme and its congeners.
